Whether you're looking to soften the feel of a firm polyester, unlock more spin, or simply fine-tune your setup, a hybrid restring is one of the most effective ways to customise your racket's performance.

Each of our curated hybrid combinations pairs a high-performance polyester main with a premium multifilament or synthetic gut cross - expertly chosen to complement each other for spin, comfort, power and control. Our professional restringing service ensures every hybrid is installed with precision, tailored to your chosen tension for optimal results.

Simply select your preferred combination and tension below, send us your racket, and we'll return it expertly strung and ready for action. Not sure which combination is right for you? Hybrid Tennis Restring FAQ's

1. What is a hybrid tennis restring?

A hybrid tennis restring uses two different strings in the same racket - one string for the main strings (which run vertically) and a different string for the cross strings (which run horizontally). This allows players to combine the benefits of two strings in a single setup, typically pairing a polyester main for spin and control with a multifilament or synthetic gut cross for added comfort and feel.

2. Why choose a hybrid string setup?

A hybrid setup gives you the best of both worlds. Polyester mains deliver the spin, control and durability that serious players rely on, while softer cross strings add comfort, power and a more cushioned feel at impact. It's one of the most effective ways to fine-tune your racket's performance without committing to a full bed of either string type - and it's a setup used by many professional players on tour.

3. Is a hybrid restring better than a full polyester setup?

It depends on your priorities. A full polyester setup offers maximum control and spin but can be demanding on the arm over time. A hybrid softens that experience considerably - reducing shock and vibration while keeping the spin and directional precision of a poly main intact. For players who love poly performance but find a full bed too firm, a hybrid is often the better long-term choice.

4. Which hybrid combination should I choose?

It comes down to your playing style and priorities. For maximum spin and control with added comfort, Solinco Tour Bite mains paired with Solinco Vanquish or Wilson Sensation crosses is a classic combination. For more power and a softer feel, Solinco Mach-10 mains with Wilson Sensation crosses is an excellent option. For the most budget-friendly entry point into hybrid restringing, Kirschbaum Pro Line II mains with Tecnifibre Synthetic Gut crosses offers great performance at the lowest price point. Not sure? Choose the Custom Hybrid option and get in touch - we're happy to advise.

5. What tension should I use for a hybrid restring?

A good starting point is the middle of your racket's recommended tension range. Because hybrid setups tend to play slightly livelier than a full poly bed, players coming from a full polyester setup may want to string 1-2 lbs tighter than usual. If comfort is your priority, err slightly looser. Many players also string their mains slightly tighter than their crosses - if you'd like a custom mains and cross tension combination, select the Custom Hybrid option and let us know your preferred setup in the order notes.

6. Can I have different tensions on my mains and crosses?

Yes - stringing mains and crosses at different tensions is a common and effective approach in hybrid setups. Many players string their poly mains 2-4 lbs tighter than their multifilament crosses to balance control and comfort across the string bed. If you'd like a split tension setup, select your preferred combination, choose the closest overall tension from the dropdown, and add your specific mains and cross tensions in the order notes at checkout.

7. Is a hybrid restring good for tennis elbow?

A hybrid setup is significantly more arm-friendly than a full polyester restring. The softer multifilament or synthetic gut cross strings absorb shock and reduce vibration across the string bed, easing the impact on the elbow and shoulder. Pairing a softer poly main like Solinco Mach-10 or Solinco Hyper-G Soft with a multifilament cross provides the most arm-friendly hybrid experience while still retaining poly performance. If you are suffering from serious tennis elbow, a full multifilament restring may be the safer short-term option.

8. How long does a hybrid restring last?

Hybrid string durability depends primarily on the polyester main string, as mains experience the most wear and movement during play. For frequent players (3+ times per week), restringing every 3-4 weeks is recommended to maintain peak performance. Casual players can extend this to 6-8 weeks. The multifilament or synthetic gut cross strings will typically outlast the poly mains, so you may notice the string bed losing its liveliness before visible wear appears.

9. Can any racket be restrung with a hybrid setup?

Yes - any standard tennis racket can be restrung with a hybrid setup regardless of brand, model or head size. The process is the same as a standard restring; our stringer simply uses your chosen main and cross strings separately. If your racket has a shared tie-off system or unusual grommet configuration, this won't affect the result - our experienced team handles all racket types.

10. What is the cheapest hybrid restring option?

Our most affordable hybrid combination is Kirschbaum Pro Line II mains paired with Tecnifibre Synthetic Gut crosses, starting from £25. This pairing offers a genuine performance upgrade over a full synthetic gut setup - the co-polyester Pro Line II main adds meaningful spin and control while the Tecnifibre Synthetic Gut cross keeps the feel comfortable and accessible. It's an ideal entry point for players curious about hybrid restringing without a large budget commitment.
